Knezevic: «I'm joining the biggest team

As of today, Juventus' 2008/09 defence can be considered complete. After signing Mellberg, and De Ceglie's return, now it's Dario Knezevic's turn joining the side. Born in 1982, in Rijeka, Croatia, he played for Livorno last season and is here on loan, with an option for Juve to buy out half of his ownership. He'll be joining Ranieri and the others from mid-July, after the holidays needed to recuperate after Euro 2008 and most of all to recover from the injury he picked up against Poland, which forced him to finish his involvement in the tournament early.

«I'm joining the biggest team of them all; I'll have to measure up to players of Del Piero and Trezeguet's stature. For sure I'll learn something every day and in each training session». These were Dario's first words, spoken in visibly excited tones, as is normal for any newbie joining the "university of football".

After stints at Rijeka and Livorno, the lad knows this is his big chance to show what he's worth and confirm the good impression he gave in the last two years in Italy and when playing for his national team, after the doubly unlucky experience at Euro 2008 (the injury for him and Croatia being knocked out in such a dramatic fashion by Turkey).

Indeed the injury suffered in the last match of the first round will prevent him from starting off at full speed. Director of Sport Alessio Secco and Dr. Agricola, both in Vinovo today, announced that Knezevic will need to rest for 30/35 days due to the knock he received to his left knee, which in any case is already healing. After 15 days of physiotherapy with no training, he will be able to start a personal regime and then join the others before the end of July to start training normally under Manager Ranieri's supervision.

The injury didn't prevent other teams trying to sign him up until the last moment. Especially Torino, with whom a true "market transfer derby" was fought. Alessio Secco spoke in clear terms about the situation: «We started talks with Livorno's president Spinelli about ten days ago and we reached a verbal agreement, taking our time to check Dario's conditions. In the meantime, other Clubs tried to sneak in with their offers, but the player only signed our contract, which is the only one signed by both Juventus and Livorno too. That's why we're perfectly sure it's all legit and we'll be depositing his contract already tomorrow».

End of discussion, as the player himself confirmed: «I respect Torino, but since I was a boy I'd always dreamed of playing for a big club and this is the biggest of them all. In the last few days I never had any doubt about which club to choose ».

Just the time to fully recover from his injury and then Knezevic's dream will entirely become reality. «I'm aware I'm joining a team where a lot of huge stars play and some of these are great defenders. But competition doesn't scare me. I'm here to learn and I'll be able to do so in each and every training session. Over the years I've played in every role in defence, but I'm more at ease as a central defender».

Sebastian Giovinco back at Juventus

A busy end of June at Juventus in transfer market terms: another three deals were completed today, all concerning young talents raised in the Club's youth sector - Giovinco, Lanzafame and Mirante.

The most important item of news, the one all the Bianconeri fans wanted to hear, is that Sebastian Giovinco is again 100% a Juventus player. Indeed the Club exercised the option they had to buy back the whole ownership of the player, and Empoli were therefore unable to exercise their rights to buy the young talent in full. Thus Giovinco will be at Manager Ranieri's disposal for the 2008/09 season.

Juventus did the same with Bari for Davide Lanzafame. They exercised their option, so the Puglia club couldn't get full ownership of the striker. Therefore Lanzafame, one of the best players in Serie B last year, comes back to Juventus.

And finally, Antonio Mirante; Sampdoria exercised their option rights on the Campania-born goalkeeper, who will stay at the Club another year, Sampdoria having full ownership with a participation agreement.

Zebina Close To Galatasaray Switch

Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina is on the verge of completing his switch to Galatasaray according to the latest reports in Italy.

The Frenchman hardly featured for the Bianconeri last term after falling out of Claudio Ranieri's favour following a touchline incident which sparked a major row.
Zebina was sent off against Cagliari last term and he took his frustrations out on a member of a TV crew on the touchline. Ever since then he has gone down hill and now he is set to leave the Old Lady.

The Turkish club would rather take him out on loan but according to Calciomercato, the Bianconeri will only sell the player so they could make a financial return on Galatasaray's investment in order to buy a midfielder.

Juve are currently dealing for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso but the English club are taking too long over the whole affair which has prompted the Bianconeri to look elsewhere.
Any incoming dividend's from the possible sale of Zebina will come in handy if the club go onto to secure the services of a top class middle man.

Juventus To Launch Quaresma Blitz

Juventus have joined the speeding bandwagon of clubs involved in the helter-skelter race to try and land Porto star Ricardo Quaresma according to A Bola.

Inter and Chelsea have been closely linked to the midfielder and reports in Italy claim that Jose Mourinho and his troop of transfer generals are holding down battle style talks with the Dragoes with a view to bringing Quaresma to San Siro.

However, the Portuguese paper claims that Juve are in the process of launching a suprise ambush for the player. Juve will offer under-fire midfielder Tiago as well as a major cash lump sum in order to try and lure the player to Turin as the Old Lady tries to get one over her Nerazzurri rivals before the new season gets underway.
Quaresma has become a target for several top European sides including Real Madrid but, with their keenness to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, the door is wide open for Quaresma and Porto to pick and choose which offer suits them best.

Juve are still in the process of strengthening their midifield but with Xabi Alonso constantly changing his mind on a possible move, the chances of the Juve board looking elswhere keep growing.

Quaresma would be the perfect man for Juve and his Champions League experience will go down well with the Old Lady as she prepares for next term's adventure in the competition.

Palladino To Sign For Genoa Today

Juventus forward Raffaele Palladino is expected to complete his co-ownership move to Genoa by the end of today.

Palladino, who is widely regarded as one of Serie A’s best young players, has been tipped to leave Juve for quite some time following a difficult season where he started just 14 Serie A games, and was often played out of position on the wing.A host of clubs have been after the 24-year-old’s signature, but last week it seemed as if Genoa had won the race after their president, Enrico Preziosi, announced the deal to the press. However Palladino then rejected the transfer at the last minute, and it seemed as if the player may stay on in Turin.Late last week though the transfer was resurrected, and Palladino agreed personal terms on a four-year contract with the Rossoblu. He will arrive in Genoa this afternoon with his agent Beppe Brozzo, and will meet with the club’s hierarchy, as well as boss Gian Piero Gasperini. If all goes smoothly, Palladino is expected to sign a co-ownership deal with Genoa until 2012.

Stankovic Wants Juve

According to Italian sports daily 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', Dejan Stankovic is determined to join Juventus from Inter this summer as he is reportedly not in José Mourinho's plans for next season at Inter.

A huge difference separates the Bianconeri's offer from the Nerazzurri's request as the Old Lady are ready to spend 8 million euros for Stankovic, whereas Inter are demanding 15 million.Such a difference in price is due to Stankovic coming from a season full of injuries and also the fact that he will be turning 30 years old in September. However, the player has apparently already reached an agreement with the Bianconeri and therefore the two clubs might meet halfway in order to seal a deal which would make both teams happy.Inter are in fact trying to sell the player since he has a high salary of 4 million per season until 2011; Juve, for their part, will insist that he takes a pay cut of 1 million. The general idea is that a deal will be sealed around 10 million Euros, even though it might take more than a few days before an agreement is reached.Stankovic himself is said to be extremely eager for the deal to go through as soon as possible.

Juventus Have Signed Palladino – Genoa

Palladino is one of Italy’s most talented young players, however he has found himself surplus to requirements in Turin following a frustrating 2007/08 season where he made just 14 Serie A starts, and often either sat on the bench, or was played in an unfavoured wide midfield position.

Yesterday the Corriere della Sera claimed that Genoa were in advanced negotiations for Palladino, and were close to agreeing a co-ownership deal worth around €5.5m.

Preziosi has now confirmed that the 24-year-old will be joining the Rossoblu, although it is not certain at this stage whether it will be a permanent of co-ownership deal.

“He has cost us a fortune but we believe a lot in the player,” Preziosi told ‘Radio Goal’ on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Maurizio Domizzi [of Napoli] is another player who interests us very much, and we hope to be able to soon bring him to Genoa.

“Our goal for next year is to improve and consolidate.”

Genoa had an outstanding first season back in Serie A following 12 years spent in the wilderness, finishing in 10th place in the standings.

Juventus sign Paolo De Ceglie

The new 2008/09 Juventus side is taking shape. Next season, Claudio Ranieri will be able to count on Paolo De Ceglie too. The young player from Val d'Aosta, who turns 22 in September and spent years at Juventus' youth sector, returns to the team that moulded him and launched him at the top level.

Therefore, Juventus get one of their most promising youngsters back, after settling in their favour the joint-ownership deal with Siena; this year Paolo played his first (excellent) season in Serie A there, collecting 29 appearances and two goals.

Meanwhile, it has been decided that Andrea Rossi will stay in Tuscany. The lad from the Marche region, who grew up at Juventus too, and recently went on tour with them in China and Australia, has been sold on a permanent basis to Siena.

Director of Sport Alessio Secco commented the deal after the announcement was made. «With De Ceglie's return to Turin, our plan of getting our young talents who grew up at Juventus back is marching on. Paolo has done very well at Siena and we're sure he'll be able to show his worth to Claudio Ranieri
